Mummification is a technique of preserving the dead bodies that have been in use for thousands of years to protect the bodies of the departed. The ritual has been practiced by many cultures around the world, and according to recent discoveries, by ancient Peruvian inhabitants. According to experts, a mummified body believed to be more than 800 years old has been unearthed in the South American nation. The body had been mummified before burial.

According to one of the archaeologists working on the case, the body was discovered in the Lima area of the country. The discovery was made public barely a few days after it was found. Dr. Pieter van Dalen Luna, a professor at the State University of San Marcos, provided a detailed description of the mummies.
According to him, they were linked together with ropes from head to toe, and their hands were covering their faces. He claimed that the operation follows the same pattern as the last tombs in the area. During his testimony, Van Dalen Luna said that the subject probably lived high in the Andes Mountains. It is not known if the body belonged but using certain methods involving radiocarbon, they can ascertain the period during which the person lived. It is possible to identify the presence of a radioactive form of carbon using this approach. This method may also be used to establish the age of anything once alive.

According to Van Dalen Luna, a burial cemetery outside of Lima was the site where the mummy was found. Stone tools, vegetables, and ceramics were among the items buried with him, as were other things such as pottery. It features hundreds of archaeological sites from the Incan Empire, which dominated the region more than 500 years ago.
