Accidental damage, abuse, misuse, fire, liquid contact, earthquake, or other external causes are expressly excluded from the AppleCare Warranty according to a condition in the policy. Even though smoking is not explicitly included in the warranty, many think that it might come within the category of “external influences.”

Saying No to Nicotine
By Apple, nicotine is listed as a bio-hazardous item on the Occupational Safety and Health Hazards (OSHA) list of dangerous substances. The residue left behind by smoking might accumulate in the gadget, causing it to overheat often. Because Apple does not want its personnel to come into touch with harmful chemicals, they have been advised not to repair computers that have contacted smokers.
In 2008, an Apple shop in Iowa, United States, refused to repair a Macbook brought in because it had overheated. This was even though its warranty was still valid. According to the explanation, “Secondhand smoking poses a health danger.” Since then, several people on forums like Quora have expressed their dissatisfaction with their Apple warranty due to smoking.

The Public Seems Unaware
Several users were taken aback when they learned about the provision. Many people have even stated that they have been smoking near their Macbooks and have yet to have them fixed. “I’ve never heard of somebody smoking and having their warranty invalidated. According to Prasad S, an Apple assistant at a retail shop in Bangalore, India, “We simply follow the warranty book for the Mac.” he adds.
This issue continues to get little attention and raise little awareness. The only sources of information available to customers are online discussion groups and a restricted number of papers available on the internet.
