With all the ongoing flirting, fans may have had an inkling as to what was coming next. Clearly the actors read the room right because the kiss couldn’t have been more satisfying.
Later it came out later that the kiss was improvised by Whelan and Varma. When the director decided the kiss was a keeper, Varma also had to kiss Whelan’s stunt double in the later scenes for the sake of continuity!

Sink, being the brave, young actress that she was, still went through with the kiss. Despite Sink’s professional attitude and her admission that she did not feel forced into the kiss, the show’s creators were still heavily criticized for adding this moment to the scene.
Fans felt that the minors were coaxed into the romantic scene. It seemed misplaced and inappropriate. While the actress maintained she was game, people, rightly so, were concerned.
