“That was our first date,” Russell remembers. “It was a lot of fun, I’ll tell you what. I can’t believe it was a long time ago.” When things are that great, they sometimes feel like they happened just yesterday.
But, their Valentine’s date was a whopping 35 years ago. It’s adorable to see Russell recall their slightly bizarre and scandalous first date with such fondness.
The Unfortunate First Move
"I was severely hungover...and I didn't know Goldie at all outside of having worked with her many years before," Kurt Russell shared with Conan O'Brien when discussing how he started up a conversation with his now-longtime partner.
"I just didn't know in my mind what I was going to say." Then, he thought in his drunken stupor, that it would be a good time to compliment her on her body.
A First Date To Remember
Against all odds and Russell's horrible hangover, his compliment worked in his favor. Kurt scored a date with the blonde stunner. On their first date, they went to see a movie. From there, things started to heat up and the two continued their date to a club for some swing dancing.
The night was quite memorable and even involved the police... usually not the type of date which leads to everlasting love. After the two clubbed until the wee hours of the morning, they went back to Hawn's home. Since she had just purchased the home to start renovations on, she didn't have a key yet. The two broke into her own home and that's when the police showed up, thinking that there had been a break in and suspected robbery. The two didn't let the hindrance ruin their first date and they continued on to a hotel room. That sure as hell beats any first date we've ever heard of.
Trying Times
If you ask Goldie Hawn how to maintain a long relationship, she won't beat around the bush with you. She'll tell you like it is. As she once told People Magazine, "monogamy is a very tough order. You're in the prime of your life, you are attracted to other people, potentially, you have fantasies about that."
Despite this ballsy admittance of hers, the power couple have managed to surpass any outside desires and they stay loyal to one another, something that is quite rare in Hollywood.
The New Brady Bunch
Despite getting together at a fairly older age, the two had every intention of growing their family. Goldie already had two children prior to Russell with Bill Hudson and Russell had one child with Season Hubley.
Goldie became pregnant three years into her relationship with Kurt and gave birth to their first child on July 10, 1986, Wyatt Russell. There is an evident bond between the family despite some of their kids being born in previous marriages. The children all share their love of acting and each one takes on his or her own unique projects.
