There’s no saying what a drone will capture. Anything’s possible when a mechanical eye takes flight. The mundane and every day become elevated. A solitary figure standing in a desolate place starts looking like a specter! This person’s innocuous shadow transforms into a creature gliding out from the depths of nightmares.
It’s almost as if the drone unveils a hidden aspect of the person. A darker self or sinister ego that lurks beneath the surface. The red landscape, once unremarkable, takes on a slightly sinister air too. Who knew a drone image could represent unsettling realities and human dualities? Art really does exist everywhere if we care enough to look.
San Andreas' Fault
This is probably the most famous crack in the Earth’s crust. It divides the state of California into two parts on two separate continental plates: the North American and the Pacific tectonic plates. This is why there are so many earthquakes in California. The fault stretches between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The Earth has dozens of fault lines, but the San Andreas is the most famous one for a few reasons. One is, that few are as strikingly clear as this one. In fact, most are at the bottom of the ocean. Also, most don't run right through the middle of major populated centers as this one does.
Flat is the Landscape, But Not Its Soul
Morning has broken over the salt plains in Guajira, Colombia. And how the salt flats dance with the light! When you think of nature photography, stunning oceans, islands, and mountains come to mind. But an image capturing life and vitality in an otherwise flat landscape deserves more credit in our view.
This drone image helps viewers stand at the intersection between stillness and motion. The light, colors, and angles capture the hush enveloping the salt plains. You can almost hear the earth’s heartbeat. Forget about the tricks of the light, this image plays with all your senses. A reminder that life thrives in seemingly quiet and uneventful places.
The South Coast Canvas
You know a drone shot is good when you can’t tell a photograph from a painting. This one’s a living, breathing oil painting - a masterpiece of light and color. The swirl of sand and waves resembles delicate strokes of paint. It’s almost impossible to say where the land ends and the water begins.
You can see the elements come together effortlessly. And just like that, we’re reminded to pause and breathe for a while. This drone’s eye view connects the viewer to the earth and to the artistry that exists in nature. It reminds me to never take such beauty for granted.
A Living Breathing Hotel
When you’re looking for a breath of fresh air (quite literally) in downtown Singapore, the Oasia hotel is ‘the’ place to be. Among other things, this hotel is famous for lush greenery surrounding its exteriors. It’s the oasis every concrete jungle needs! This aerial view brilliantly captures the contrast in surroundings.
We have a pop of bright green, brick, and blue in between imposing concrete. Safe to say that everything else blends into the background. Singapore is a famously vibrant city, and sites like Oasia are undoubtedly at its heart. The hotel exemplifies how human ingenuity and the natural world can and should meet. They don’t have to be at odds.
